STARS Mentor Program

Article Pic The STARS tutorial program has been highly successful in allowing the church to holistically minister to kids and families in our neighborhood. We are able to meet their spiritual needs in children's and urban youth life groups and then meet their academic/mentoring needs through the college students that tutor them. We have seen neighborhood kid's lives changed through the program. STARS has recently developed an in-school mentoring program that any adult in the church can participate in. As an in-school mentor you will have the opportunity to invest in one child's life for 30 minutes a week at their school. For more information watch the VIDEO and email the STARS director, Kami Suttle.

The following specific ministries currently operate as a part of the overall mission of ACC Urban Ministries:

Children's Lifegroups:  Friday afternoon groups that gather children from the ACC neighborhood together to learn about God, experience church life, and have fun together

Urban Youth:  Lifegroups and ministries designed to reach and empower the youth in our neighborhood and nearby schools

STARS (Students Teaching and Reaching Students): A tutoring and mentoring program that helps elementary and junior high students succeed in school while they grow spiritually at ACC

Adult Urban Lifegroups:  Small Groups that include and reach out to individuals and families in the ACC neighborhood

Mercy House: A residential, discipleship-based substance abuse recovery facility for men who are committed to lifestyle change. Download a brochure abou the Mercy House here.

The Feast:  A Friday night gathering that provides "food for the body and nourishment for the soul."  In addition to receiving a free meal, individuals and families who attend the Feast have the opportunity to build healthy relationships, hear a Biblical message, pray with others at their table, and creatively share their stories and talents. Childcare is provided.

Benevolence: Portions of church resources set aside to meet the practical needs of the poor in our midst (this currently includes a food pantry and administration of some financial assistance to those involved in Lifegroups)

Risen Hope Prison Ministry: A group that weekly visits the youth who are incarcerated at Texas Youth Commission in Marlin
